IT WAS TWENTY YEARS AGO TODAY

Celebrating 20 years of avant-garde theatre in Houston

April 27, 2013 8pm* – Midnight at Last Concert Café

In the spring of 1993 Jason Nodler, Tamarie Cooper, and a group of friends got together to put on Nodler’s musical play In the Under Thunderloo in a punk rock club—and they have been freaking out Houston audiences ever since.

Please join us at this very special celebration of the artists that have entertained, confounded, mesmerized, mystified, shocked, and thrilled Houston audiences for the last twenty years.

But even if this is your very first Catastrophic event, and even if you’ve never even heard of Jason and Tamarie, it is a well-known fact that The Catastrophic Theatre still throws the wildest parties in town.  We’ll doll up local treasure The Last Concert Cafe with twenty years worth of memories for those of you that like that sort of thing but there’s so much more to enjoy.

Dance the night away to amazing music played by a super-group made up of musicians from over 20 years worth of musical plays. We’ll be performing songs and scenes from 20 years worth of weird-ass shows including Speeding MotorcycleBluefingerTamalalia! The Kinks Present A Soap OperaFleavenIn the Under Thunderloo, and others.

Wanna play dress up?  We do.  Take a trip back to the era when all this theatre-making magic began. The 1990’s!

Remember when we wore stuff like this?

This was the decade that brought you productions by Jason & Tamarie but there was some other stuff going on as well: Pulp Fiction, MC Hammer, Urkel, Twin Peaks, Baywatch, Kurt Cobain & Courtney Love, OJ Simpson, Blossom, The X-Files, NSYNC, The Spice Girls, The Pixies, Billy Ray Cyrus, Brittney Spears, The Matrix, Monica Lewinski, Jack Kevorkian, the Hale Bopp Comet, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The possibilities are endless.  Surprise us.  Or just grab your favorite flannel shirt or that neon baby doll dress you’ve still got hanging in the back of the closet and get ready for some SERIOUS FUN.

Tex-mex. Tequila. Tasty treats. Barrels of Beer. Music. Theatre. Dancing bacon. Cavemen. Costumes. Memories.

Won’t you join us?  It wouldn’t be the same without you.
