IT WAS 30 YEARS AGO TODAY
Celebrating 30 years of avant-garde theatre From “Houston’s boldest theater” – Houston Chronicle

Saturday, July 29, 2023
8pm – Midnight
at MATCH, 3400 Main Street
On May 6, 1993 Jason Nodler and a group of friends got together to put on Nodler’s musical play In the Under Thunderloo in a punk rock club. Tamarie Cooper made her acting debut in the chorus with a single line: “What happened to us?” The play didn’t provide answers, but the intervening years have. “What happened to us?” Kind of a lot.

For three decades, IBP and Catastrophic have been the reigning champions of local avant-garde theatre, one of its most prolific creators of locally developed new work, and the most financially accessible theatre in Houston.

Please join us at this very special celebration of the artists that have entertained, confounded, mesmerized, mystified, shocked, and thrilled Houston audiences for the last thirty years.

It is a well-known fact that The Catastrophic Theatre throws great parties. We’re tricking out the MATCH Gallery space with 30 years worth of memories. Dance the night away to awesome tunes from Swimwear Department! T Lavois Thiebaud will also be throwing it down and rumor has it our favorite disturbed and disturbing clown, Mortando, is crashing the party.

Chow down of a buffet bonanza, guzzle classy cocktails and imbibe delicious beer from our pals at Eureka Heights Brew Co. It wouldn’t be a fundraiser without a sensational auction and raffle. Gear up to outbid your friends and win awesome stuff!

Wanna play dress up? We do. Take a trip back to the era when all this theatre-making magic began. The 1990’s! Remember when we wore stuff like this?

This was the decade that brought you productions by the company that composed IBP but there was some other stuff going on as well: Pulp Fiction, MC Hammer, Urkel, Twin Peaks, Baywatch, Kurt Cobain & Courtney Love, OJ Simpson, Blossom, The X-Files, NSYNC, The Spice Girls, Billy Ray Cyrus, Brittney Spears, The Matrix, Monica Lewinski, Clueless, the Hale Bopp Comet, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The possibilities are endless. Surprise us. Or just grab your favorite flannel shirt or hair scrunchie and get ready for some SERIOUS FUN. Music, Memories, Fun, AND Philanthropy! And of course, BIRTHDAY CAKE.

Won’t you join us? It wouldn’t be the same without you.
