Laura Moreno

is known throughout the local theatre community as a producer, director, arts administrator, actress, makeup artist, costume and wig designer, and teaching artist (Alley Theatre, Main Street Theater, University of Houston). She currently sits on the advisory board for El Zocalo at the Alley and she served as an advisor and task force member of the play selection committee for Stages’ Sin Muros Latinx Theatre Festival. She founded the Houston chapter of the Parent Artists Advocacy League (PAAL) and is its chief representative. She is also a member of the UH College of the Arts Anti-Racism Task Force and School of Theatre and Dance DEI committee.

Laura joins The Catastrophic Theatre on the eve of completing an MA in Arts Leadership and an MFA in Directing, through the University of Houston’s College of the Arts and School of Theatre and Dance, respectively. She received her BFA in Acting in 2016, also through the UH School of Theatre and Dance.

Her advocacy and burgeoning activism is a great asset to Catastrophic in the vital areas of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Representation. A builder and creator, devoted to liberating artists from the inequitable and racist standards that have long plagued the theatre industry, Moreno seeks to engage new audiences, build relationships with marginalized communities, and provide BIPOC artists a safe, brave space that will allow their voices to be heard and empowered.
