SMALL BALL ON HOUSTON MATTERS

Musical theatre and basketball — together at last.

That’s the crux of a new play called Small Ball at Houston’s Catastrophic Theatre. The production was commissioned by Daryl Morey, the general manager of the Houston Rockets.

The idea came after Catastrophic’s artistic director Jason Nodler read that Morey was a fan of theatre and reached out to him on Facebook.

The story combines original music by Merel van Dijk and Anthony Barilla and features musical underscoring throughout almost the entire performance.

Small Ball premieres April 6 and runs through May 13 at MATCH.

In the audio above, Houston Public Media’s Ernie Manouse talks with Morey, along with Nodler, and Catastrophic’s associate director Tamarie Cooper.
