Houston Press
Founded in 1989, the Houston Press was the city’s first free major arts, news and entertainment weekly. Today, thanks to houstonpress.com, the Press is both daily and weekly, but it’s still the place for Texans in this part of the state to find out what there is to do – or what other people did. Whether it’s investigating wrongdoing or providing incisive arts and entertainment coverage, the Press, now a part of the Voice Media Group family, takes a no-holds-barred approach to gathering the news. Those efforts from our reporters, photographers, videographers and graphic artists have resulted in a significant number of journalism awards: First-place for staff blog in the 2016 Association of Alternative Newsmedia Awards; winner in the 2016 Clarion Awards for feature writing; winner for Outstanding Newspaper Article in the national 2016 GLAAD media awards; three first places in the 2016 First Amendment Awards competition for Texas and Oklahoma; and seven first places in the statewide2016 Lone Star Awards.
With more than 200,000 readers each month in print and more than 1.6 million monthly active users online, we’ve made an enduring connection with our readership community. And we bring that connection home with some of the city’s best live events. In January, our popular Artopia draws thousands of Houstonians to Winter Street Studios for fashion shows, art of every kind, live music and food and cocktails from local restaurants. And in April, our Menu of Menus offers an Iron Fork Chef Competition along with more tastings from the city’s best restaurants.
