Jason Nodler is a Houston-based playwright, director and songwriter. He founded the nationally acclaimed ensemble Infernal Bridegroom Productions and served as artistic director there for ten years before leaving to direct plays at regional theatres around the country. His original plays (Life is Happy and Sad, Speeding Motorcycle, Meatbar, King Ubu is King, In the Under Thunderloo) all received their premieres in Houston. Speeding Motorcycle received its second production at Zachary Scott Theatre Center in Austin.
In the Under Thunderloo was produced twice in Houston and once in the U.K. He has received commissions from The Rockefeller Foundation, Diverseworks Artspace and private individuals. He was recently awarded a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship to attend The MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire, where he created new work for the theatre with his longtime collaborator Anthony Barilla.
Mr. Nodler has directed more than 30 productions in Houston, Austin, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Providence and New York. He is an alumnus of New York University’s Dramatic Writing program where he studied with Maria Irene Fornes, Tina Howe, Mac Wellman, Len Jenkin and Leslie Lee. He is a seasoned arts administrator and has served as a consultant to non-profit organizations around the country in the areas of Audience Development and Strategic Planning. He has conducted lectures and workshops at various universities and high schools.
